Summary of Project
This Durango mountain retreat began as a furnished home that met immediate needs during the pandemic but lacked the cohesion and character the clients envisioned for long-term enjoyment. Our design focused on reimagining the living room with updated furnishings and the addition of a custom fireplace—an essential feature for Colorado living—while refining the kitchen to create a more cohesive, contemporary mountain aesthetic.
Thoughtful updates transformed the home into a highly personal retreat that feels both sophisticated and welcoming. Guided by close collaboration and careful coordination with trusted vendors, the project overcame the unique challenges of a remote location to realize a shared vision—one that balances comfort, craftsmanship, and individuality while offering a refined alternative to traditional rustic cabin design.
Three standout items from this project include:
Custom Fireplace & Built-In Cabinetry
The addition of a new fireplace with a custom built-in cabinet and quartz hearth created a much-needed focal point in a home originally built without one. Careful coordination and strategic placement allowed the feature to integrate seamlessly with the architecture.
Limewashed Brick Transformation
Limewashing the existing brick softened its tone and elevated the finish, transforming a builder-grade element into a more bespoke, textural feature that supports the home’s contemporary mountain aesthetic.
Curated Gallery Wall with a Frame TV
A layered gallery wall surrounding the Frame TV blends art and technology, creating a personalized focal point that reinforces the home’s collected, highly curated feel.
